12 Apps That Keep Me iPhone Faithful
I’ve had an iPhone since they first came out and today, even with the iPhone 4 version, I still get misty-eyed looking at. It has been my one and only smartphone. I’ve never had a Blackberry. The Android looks pretty good, and the EVO seems to be the closest to the style of an iPhone, but I don’t care. I try not to bash or wax wishfully over things I don’t have. I would rather love up the things that I do. I’m an Apple fiend and thankfully, it is well deserved. As I said in an earlier post, I live in a Mac House and my recent purchase of the iPad was a bit like bringing home a new pet. Would it take over the space of the iPhone? No. The iPad as expected, has become my game center and is a super portable, space saving, magazine and book reader. In a future post I’ll talk more on the things that make it great. I love it, but seriously….the iPhone rocks. Here are my favorite apps. Some are exclusive iPhone apps. Some are not. These are the ones that make my day to day with the iPhone digitally flawless.

Evernote –FREE- I installed this app on my laptop, iPad and iPhone. It’s an integrated app that takes the worry out of losing notes, business card info, weblinks, and receipts. I clip and save interesting websites instead of and faster than bookmarking them. I can take pics of all business cards, important receipts, and anything interesting I might come across. It’s all saved to a free online account that synchs effortlessly. Everything is instantly accessible on all three devices.

Amazon- FREE if I’m in the bookstore and a book seems too expensive, I can either search this app for Amazons info and reviews or I can click a picture of it. Recognition software in the app finds the book, and in an instant I can drop it into a wish list or order it on the spot.

Daily Burn FREE and Daily Burn Food Scanner -$2.99 – 2 apps that work together to keep me on track with my nutrition goals. Am I meeting my daily protein intake? Making sure I don’t go over daily sugar limits? Want to keep track of what I’m eating and my weight if I’m trying to accomplish a physical goal? It’s all here.

Mapquest 4 Mobile- FREE Voice turn-by-turn directions and route recalculating. Great for road trips. Plan everything out by laptop on mapquest.com and save the directions to my user account. Open the app in the car and it’s synched up and ready to start the drive.

Awesome Note-$3.99 Works great with Evernote. I never worry about losing any notes I make on my phone. One time losing all of my iPhone notes made me a believer in Awesome notes. A quick synch with Evernote and all is safe and available on my phone, laptop or anywhere online.

WorldMate-FREE Handles travel itineraries. Whenever I receive email travel reservations/confirmations I forward them to trips@worldmate.com. Somehow it reads the info and compiles my trip info on my phone, complete with maps to, contact info, and dates. From within the app I can send my info to friends/family, book additional travel, check weather and more.

Gowalla-FREE Never got into the foursquare app and I’ve never attached my Gowalla account to twitter and facebook. I just love checking in places I visit. I use this as a fun travel journal. Feel like a Girl Scout again when a new state earns me a pin. My favorite? The wanderer pin!

Vegan Express- $1.99 With hundreds of restaurants and info on what I can eat in them, this app helps me manage my food choices in a simple but very necessary way.

iHome + Sleep- FREE- I set the app alarm and the phone brightness dims when its time to call it a night. My choice of music plays while I drift off. I awake with more musical choices. Plus, when I hit the alarm, news of the world scrolls into view. I could pay a couple of hundred for an iHome desktop system. This is a perfect and portable steal of an iPhone app.

My Contacts (FB, Yahoo, Gmail)-FREE integrates all my facebook (and email) contacts into my iPhone contact app. Now I can email or call new FB friends with the same ease that I could do for everyone in my old contact list.

Urbanspoon –FREE Find great food of all kinds and prices. I set my location, price range and food type; give the phone a shake and choices appear. Also gives spots with good urbanspoon.com reviews. I can submit my own thumbs up or down from within the app.

Thanks, Spencer!!! I am on my way to the Apps Store to do a little iShopping!!
You’re welcome! There are so many apps to choose from. According to my phone I have 122 on there right now. Choosing 12 was tough. I love talking about apps. I’ll be posting some for the iPad soon.
