Connection is “The Secret” to Salvation

Are we not as a society struggling to connect with each other? Does the concept of changing our thoughts, which suggest prior thoughts of negativity and malaise, suggest that so many of us are at the crossroads of “sick and tired of being sick and tired?”

The ideas behind or part of “The Secret” are things we have always heard of or known in our lives. Misery loves company they say. You reap what you sow. You get what you give. Indeed. I am so often amazed at how when I awake with a positive spirit, that few things bother me as my day rolls on. Yet when I begin with a chaotic mind, so does the day. It quickly becomes one of those days when you want to scream…”What else!!!??”

I admit that I probably have had more chaotic mind days then days of clarity, but clarity is what I so desire. Are there too many of us who seek chaos? Let me add another of those known sayings here: If you’re around somebody who is constantly unhappy…find yourself a new friend!

I am thoroughly tired of chaos, and I am truly and honestly aware of my role in this. I find that my outer life is quite calm and set for me. It is my inner soul that needs the work! As I struggle for peace, I find Buddhist principles to be key in balancing myself out as the day goes on:

The Four Noble Truths:
1. Life is, at its essence unsatisfactory.
2. The reason? Because we are in a state of constant craving.
3. Lack of satisfaction and the bondage of craving need not be our fate.
4. The way to release ourselves from bondage is through the eightfold path.

The Eightfold Path:
1. Right viewpoint
2 . Right Intention
3. Right Speech
4. Right Action
5. Right Livelihood
6. Right Effort
7. Right Mindfulness
8. Right Concentration
It is said in Buddhist belief, that these hold the path to salvation. Could this not also be said as the path to connection? Is salvation found in connection? In my life, it is.
