Books:
The Places That Scare You: A Guide to Fearlessness in Difficult Times This is the one book that never leaves my bedside. Never gets rotated from the bed bookcase to the office. Read it for the first time after my mother passed away and I refer to it whenever challenge and fear knocks on my door.
Becoming Vegan: The Complete Guide to Adopting a Healthy Plant Based Diet Really the core essential reference guide for the dietary part of becoming vegan. One to come back to again and again.
The Simple Living Guide: A Sourcebook for Less Stressful, More Joyful Living A big book with lots of different topics and resources. One of my favorites.
The Quantum Wellness Cleanse: The 21 Day Essential Guide to Healing Your Mind, Body and Spirit (This is a 21 day vegan plan) If you or a loved one are considering going vegan, try it for 21 days. This book is a simple daily guide. Basic ideas. Not overwhelming.
Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life For athletes who consider if being vegan and living a life of performance is possible.
Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating One of the first books I read before becoming vegan. This book does a good job of talking about the health benefits.
The Social Contract – Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Though this classic doesnt answer nor speak to all of my political leanings, its core that “Man was Born Free, and He Is Everywhere In Chains” develops into a powerful read.
Walden Henry David Thoreau
Simplistic. I’ve never considered that I would actually isolate myself as Thoreau does here, but it is signifcant to consider why everyone should.
Think and Grow Rich- Napoleon Hill
I don’t admire this book as the platform for corporatism and wealth. I spun this book in my own mind to formulate how training the subconcious makes our actions nearly undefeatable in what we choose to aspire to.
Zen and the Art of Making a Living- Laurence G. Boldt
A great workbook for considering what it is that you really love to do, and how you can create your best occupation based on that.
The 4 Hour Work Week – Timothy Ferriss
Perhaps the shakiest parts of the book are the vague business models, but I totally agree with Ferriss that life is to be lived and enjoyed NOW, not after retirement. How you transistion your mind to this and why, is neatly packaged here. If you’re looking for ideology and great resources on how to transform your relationship with work life balances-it’s here.
CEO of Me- Creating A Life That Works in the Flexible Job Age – Ellen Kossek and Brenda Lautsch
A more modern “what color is my parachute,” that leans you toward the skills start a new life for yourself. Good stuff and well organized for such a mounmental task.
Six Months Off- Hope Dlugozima, James Scott, and David Sharp
Is it possible? Possibly. Certainly if youre ever considering taking any time off, this is the guide for getting your life in order to do it and what you need to do to return safely.
The Not So Big Life-Making room for What Really Matters- Sarah Susanka
Particularly in our current social environment, it really pays to reset and reconsider what we really need. This book gives some hints.
