Don’t Let Planning Get in the Way of Living!

I am a planner. Some would call this being a control freak and on many days, I might be inclined to agree with them. I come from a long line of planners, most evident being my mother, who went to her passage with notebooks full of ideas and unfinished dreams near her side. I too have such notebooks, and if I’m not writing plans out there, I admit to having a dry eraser board tucked in the corner of my office for those moments when I need to see my grandiose ideas drawn out on multicolored mind map diagrams. Yesterday I pulled into a crowded NC gas station, and started my routine— pumping, grumbling, and pumping. I wasn’t alone in that routine. Suddenly, something pulled up that caused every last person at the station to turn their heads and start drooling. One man stopped pumping his gas, looked into his car at his wife and said, “Baby I’ve got to get one of those!” Another, watching the owner of this vehicle pumping gas, made his way over, examined closely and remarked, “Beautiful. Connection is “The Secret” to Salvation

So many are so into the ideas behind “The Secret.” Fad or not… Oprah pushed idea that is moving on or not… Does this not speak to a larger issue?
Are we not as a society struggling to connect with each other? Does the concept of changing our thoughts, which suggest prior thoughts of negativity and malaise, suggest that so many of us are at the crossroads of “sick and tired of being sick and tired?”

The ideas behind or part of “The Secret” are things we have always heard or known in our lives. Misery loves company they say. You reap what you sow. You get what you give. Indeed. I am so often amazed at how when I awake with a positive spirit, that few things bother me as my day rolls on. Yet when I begin with a chaotic mind, so does the day. It becomes one of those days when you want to scream…”What else!!!??” Read more…
